Indonesia, this large archipelago contains the second highest level of biodiversity in the World. Known predominately for its beaches, Indonesia has two hidden wildlife gems: Borneo, an island rich in bio-diverse rainforest which is home to the endangered Orangutan and Komodo National Park, a coastal ecosystem of mangroves, coral reefs and small islands where the World’s largest lizard, the Komodo Dragon lives.
Administratively, this island of Borneo is divided between Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei. Indonesia claims the largest territory however they prefer to call the island Kalimantan. Borneo or Kalimantan is very rich in biodiversity and although much of the island has still to be thoroughly discovered by researchers there are approximately 15,000 species of flowering plants including orchids, 3,000 species of trees, 221 species of mammals and 420 species of resident birds.
