Mount Toubkal
TREK TO THE TOP OF THE HIGHEST PEAK IN NORTH AFRICA
BREATHTAKING VIEWS OF THE ATLAS MOUNTAINS
FASCINATING CULTURES & PICTURESQUE BERBER VILLAGES
EXOTIC MARRAKECH
We begin the trek with a climb of Jebel Oukaimeden (3257m), a straightforward ascent, providing excellent acclimatisation and fantastic views of our goal, Mt. Toubkal. Over the next few days we follow little used mule tracks through isolated villages, green fertile valleys, deep gorges and over high rugged mountain passes to arrive at the Neltner Refuge below Toubkal. On this charming walk we will have time to explore and meet the friendly, colourful inhabitants of the Berber villages that we pass.
Our ascent of Toubkal is not technical but is a rough scramble on scree however the views from the summit are magnificent and well worth the effort. Far below to the north are the fertile plains of Marrakech while to the south is the Jebel Sahro range and the vast expanse of the Great Sahara. Mt. Toubkal at 4167 metres is the highest mountain in North Africa and is a fitting climax to our short trek in this stunning region. Returning to Marrakech we have time to explore the bazaars and the fascinating Djemma El-Fna Square in the old city before flying home.
