Sikkim Kangchenjunga
A MAGNIFICENT JOURNEY COMBINING TWO EXCELLENT TREKS: THE SINGALILA RIDGE & THE GOECHA LA
SPECTACULAR VIEWS OF THE HIMALAYA, KANGCHENJUNGA, MAKALU & EVEREST
VISIT ANCIENT BUDDHIST MONASTERIES
ENJOY THE CHARMS OF CHARACTER 'OLD WORLD' HOTELS IN DARJEELING & KALIMPONG
Situated in the Eastern Himalaya the Kingdom of Sikkim, with its fine mountain scenery, Buddhist monasteries, orchids, butterflies, dense forests and clear streams, is perfect trekking country.
Two nights in Darjeeling provide the opportunity to watch sunrise over Kangchenjunga (8598m), the World’s third highest mountain, before commencing a spectacular six-day walk along the magnificent Singalila Ridge, a massive spur running south from the huge Kangchenjunga massif dividing Sikkim from Nepal. Our walk weaves through rhododendron forests and tiny settlements, providing excellent acclimatisation for the second part of our journey; the trek to the Goecha La pass (4900m). There are fantastic mountain views towards Everest and Makalu in Nepal and Chomolhari in Bhutan. Our highest camp is near the sacred Samiti Lake at 4250 metres, a beautiful location surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks. The climax of the trek will be the close views of the massive eastern wall of Kangchenjunga, rising a sheer 4200 metres above the Talung Glacier from the Goecha La pass. On our return, we visit monasteries, tea gardens and orchid nurseries and relax amid the beautiful gardens of Kalimpong before the flight back to Delhi.
