Ladakh: Discover Ladakh - Land of the Snow Leopard
INTRODUCTION TO TREKKING IN LADAKH
VISIT THE COLOURFUL FESTIVALS AT HEMIS OR TAK THOK
DISCOVER TRADITIONAL VILLAGES & THE OLDEST MONASTERIES
Set amid some of the World’s greatest mountain ranges in the far north of India, Ladakh is a remote and rugged land, often described as ‘Little Tibet’ with its moonscape terrain.
Our days in Leh allow us to visit some of the great monasteries and picturesque villages of the Indus Valley, slowly acclimatising before the walking begins. We have timed our visit to coincide with the colourful festivals at Hemis and Tak Thok monasteries. The monks perform various dances wearing multi-coloured costumes and fearsome masks which will provide many photographic opportunities.
Trekking through this spectacular landscape we cross the Stok La (4836m) to the base of Stok Kangri. Blue Sheep, Marmots, Lammergeier Vultures and Golden Eagles are commonly seen and occasionally the magnificent Snow Leopard. Finally we return to Leh having completed an incredible journey. Our trek in the land of the Snow Leopard in the high Himalaya promises to be a memorable adventure.
