ARCHITECTURAL TREASURES IN ELEGANT AREQUIPA
CONDORS SOARING OVER THE COLCA CANYON
FLOATING REED ISLANDS OF LAKE TITICACA
CUSCO & THE SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS
STUNNING MACHU PICCHU
This wonderful tour incorporates many of Peru’s highlights. Lying in the shadow of volcanoes, Arequipa is an architectural delight with fine Spanish buildings made of white volcanic stone, from which the city’s nickname ‘White City’ arises. From Arequipa we travel through a rugged landscape to the Colca Valley. From advantage points over the canyon we will search the skies for huge Andean Condors soaring on the thermals. Driving onto Puno we’ll spot wild Llama and Vicuna along the way before arriving at the shores of Lake Titicaca. Here we take a boat to Taquile Island, admire the lake views and visit the residents on the floating reed islands of Uros.
Early morning we take one of the World’s greatest rail journeys across the high Altiplano to Cusco, centre of the Inca Empire. We explore Cusco and visit nearby Inca ruins in the Sacred Valley before embarking on the train to the magnificent Machu Picchu perched high above the Urubamba River. Our stay overnight near this amazing lost city allows us a full afternoon investigating the ruins and the opportunity to absorb the atmosphere of this incredible citadel the next day at sunrise, a truly stunning end to a marvellous tour.
